Hailing from the Rhône Valley where it produces some of France’s most coveted wines - lithe, peppery, feminine Côte Rôtie to Hermitage’s more masculine, dense, spiced incarnation. However, its other important dominion is Australia where it takes on the form of heady, chocolatey indulgence. Whilst the same grape, many producers in the New World will use the two names as a useful tool in denoting stylistic difference; ‘Syrah’ being peppery, restrained & more delicate, whilst ‘Shiraz’ being more spiced & rich.
